Ellen is a 1999 graduate of the
Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY, and a NYS licensed massage
therapist since 2000. With advanced studies in Craniosacral Therapy,
Myofascial release, Neuromuscular Therapy and Reiki, Ellen is able to draw
on these varied modalities to create a therapy session that meets the
individual needs of her clients.
Many clients coming for treatment have a
history of chromic pain and discomfort and after a few sessions, are pleased
to have relief from their symptoms for the first time in years.
Ellen specializes in Craniosacral Therapy
(CST). A gentle hands-on therapy that enhances the body’s own healing
capablilites, CST can often be an effective alternative in cases where other
therapies have not provided relief. CST can allow for the release of
physical, mental or emotional tension, and enhance the function of different
systems in the body, such as the nervous system.
The practitioner works with the naturally
occurring rhythm of the cerebral spinal fluid, part of the central nervous
system that nourishes the membranes around the brain and spinal cord, much
like the pulse of blood as it moves through the circulatory system.
By feeling or “listening” to this rhythm in
the head, spine, or low back, tension patterns restricting the movement of
the bones may spontaneously be let go or released. The client may feel this
on some level, often through a deep exhalation or noticing that their pain
or discomfort has eased.
Some conditions often treated are neck and
low back pain, sciatica, migraines and headaches, autoimmune diorders, TMJ
syndrome, post-surgery recovery, stress reduction.
